| 251204 241204 How I spent my Christmas eve: Today was my last day working at Robinsons (okay I finally reveal where I work) so I put in my best into wrapping every single gift. Thankfully nobody bought any gigantic Winnie The Pooh soft toy. We even saw actor Bryan Wong queuing up to get his gift wrapped. Luckily I didn't have to serve him because I honestly didn't know how to react to him. The 4 hours past by surprisingly fast, after which Kai Sze and I gave out candy canes to our colleauges who became our friends as well. Recieved some gifts from them as well. Although there were times when I got sick of standing for so long and wrapping so many thousand presents, i don't regret having this job as I have learnt a new skill and made new friends and also gained people skills. Afterwards me and Kai Sze rushed over to Swisshotel Merchant Court to work. This wedding couple apparently is loaded with cash because everything on the menu looks absolutely expensive. There was prawns with ginseng, cold dish with suckling pig, udon with seafood and even abalone. I secretly sneaked a few slices of abalone (which the guests didn't finish) in my mouth in the kitchen. =x Very nice. =P The people from my table (bless them) left after the 7th course and I could start clearing up right away while the rest of the waitors and waitresses had to serve the 8th and last course. After we were dismissed me, Kai Sze and 2 of our colleagues sat in the empty staff cafeteria and counted down to Christmas. I received this very cute wrist band from Gladys. And I knew her for barely 2 weeks! For the past few years I have beem spending my Christmas eves at home, this year I'm really glad that I have my special someones-my friends at my side. Merry Christmas to all. ;) Ying.||14:54 121204 Lol, just 'talked' to my brother who is all the way in Korea. On Msn Messenger, that is! He's there on a leisure trip organized my his cca, the lucky guy. Was amazed to see him online. How great technology is. I've been working for 18 days at my work so far. I got so exasperated and tired today. I don't understand why the company was so stingy and didn't hire more gift wrappers given the situation. The crowd was massive today and the queue got longer and longer. It was totally hectic. Even the promoters had to go inside the counter to help us. I was wrapping every single minute. And the situation is going to get worst when it advances even nearer to Christmas. Customers are really monsters. Some greedy customers can ask for 10 wrappers when they only bought like, 5 items. And there those customers who think we are indebted to them just because they spend hundreds of dollars at our store and demand for more bows and wrappers. Greedy customers just reach out their hands and take stacks of gift tags on the counters. I wrapped a perfectly accpetable piece of shirt for a customer and she said she personally didn't like how I wrapped. She still boasted someone with her that she could do a better job. Hurt me like hell. If she's so good at wrapping why did she ask me to wrap. And yesterday I had to wrap this giant Winnie the Pooh soft toy that was half my size. Had to join up 6 pieces of paper together and that wasn't even enough space. Did it on the floor. The customers still had the gall to laugh in amusement. I wonder which spoilt brat got it for a present. It's not as if she can hug it to bed every night. It'll only sit in the house and collect dust. Children nowadays are so lucky. The Winnie the Pooh toy should be banned. Went for my class (4B) barbeque in East Coast Park yesterday. Rented rollerblades. Made a fool of myself since it was only my second time roller blading. I could skate but at quite a slow speed compared to those pro ones. Ying.||22:42 111204 What's so special about today? There were alot of shoppers, and once they started coming they never stopped. My colleagues and I were so tired, and we started thinking that the pay wasn't worth what we had to do. I had a terrible neck and back ache when I came home. T-T It was so stressful when I saw the long queue of people waiting to have their gifts wrapped. Anyway Weina came to visit me yesterday! Actually I just had a glimpse of her. -_-"' She just called my name while I was serving a customer and when I looked around for her later she was gone. Quite touched that she came to visit me, but she could have at least stayed for a while! Ying.||21:04 031204 I'm getting better and better at gift wrapping! It's a form of art really. I learn something new everyday. Last time I didn't even know how to use a penknife properly, to tell you the truth. -_-"' The security camera scrutinizing us spoils the fun. My friend and I have just been let on on the secret that that's a camera above the gift wrapping counter. Sure enough that's a black dome shape thing on the ceiling that probably obscures a security camera. They say it's to protect our welfare in case a customer accuses us of doing something we did not do. I just feel so insecure knowing that there's a camera recording my every move. I'm not so sure whether the supervisors sit in front of the camera to watch us. I feel like an animal in a documentary in Discovery Channel. Now I finally realize that ignorance can really be bliss. I love the Winnie The Pooh stuffed toys on sale where I worked! SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE SO CUTE I wrapped some of them. Wished they were for me. There are also thousands of amazing gifts on sale. *drools* I have a big ugly bruise on my left knee due to the fall. It covers nearly the whole knee boohoohoo. T-T Ying.||22:03 291104 LiVeRpOoL bEaT ArSeNaL 2-1~! *~(^-^)/~* I was so tired yesterday. After my gift wrapping work I went over to Carlton Hotel to work. I forgot to bring my identification card and the scurity guard INSISTED I had to get it or I won't get the voucher (without it I can't get the pay and my uniform). Last week I forgot to bring it too and the security guard (another one. more kind-hearted) let me in all the same. I saw an EZ-Link card in the slot (which meant that somebody else registered with that card and not his IC) and I pointed that out to the guard but he gave me some stupid explaination which I forgot. My friends had their IC with them and they decided to go and change leaving me alone in the stupid place wondering whether to go home or not. So I was calling home and complaining and I walked away from the security checkpoint because I did not want the security guard to hear me bitching about him on the phone. Being so worked up, I didn't notice where I was going and I tripped over the pavement and landed painfully on the WET ground (it rained earlier) It hurt, I was wet all over and I was all alone. I thought about my bad luck (and not just that incident) and I just cried. I called my parents and my father actually took a taxi to bring my IC to me. It took 45 minutes. And when I went up there I nearly hyperventilated when I saw that the uniform room was closed and locked up. Thank goodness they told me the woman in charge was still in the female changing room and I looked for her. You know what size uniform she gave me? Large. It was the smallest size there. I usually wear XS. I look like the HANGER of the uniform. Nearly wanted to call it quits and go home but then the manager spotted me and ordered me to go to the ballroom at once. They didn't scold me when they knew I was late. =D But I lost one hour's worth of pay. Minus the taxi fare and I doubt I have much left. =( But I really enjoyed my job as a banquet waitress so it's okay. I am really getting the hang of gift wrapping. ^^v I was slacking through my work today because it was a weekday and we had very few customers. Not bad really, to get paid for doing nothing. =P Ying.||21:00 261104 Started my work as a gift wrapper today. I look sucky in the polo tee they loaned us to wear for work. There are 2, one has been stretched till it's out of shape, the other is the same size as the first, yet it has somehow shrinked. I wore the looser one today. Being watched by the customer while I wrap their purchase was absolutely horrifying. I was so nervous I couldn't think straight, much less wrap efficiently. Firstly I have only been to the wrapping training session for 2 hours, and although I learnt how to make a gift bag, you have no idea the thousands of different shapes and sizes of the items in the whole 3 levels of the department store. The gift bag doesn't accomodate every single item. And yes, I'm not a 'crafty' person. T-T The customer standing there makes it even worse. However I sort of calmed down and got comfortable after a while. It also helps that the people in charge of us were very understanding, even pitching in to help us out when we had difficulties. I thought they were going to reprimand us for being so nervous and inept at first. Good thing was, most of the time there wasn't any customers at the gift wrapping counter. It's still early from Christmas and many people usually do last minute shopping (bless me when the time comes). I was slacking most of time, cutting the wrapping paper into half, making giftbags and pasting tape on the bows. Quite relaxing. =D By the end of my job I'll be a gift wrapping pro. Wahaha. Ying.||22:02 241104 Happy sweet 17 Shin!~~ I'm beginning to lose my interest as a gift wrapper-and I haven't even started work. It's a temporary job that lasts for a month and I'll work for only four hours a day. The pay is $ 4 .50/hr on weekdays and $ 5 .50/hr on weekends. This afternoon I went for the training session with Kai Sze (we get paid for it! =D) where we spent around 2 hours learning how to gift wrap. There's a standard wrapping style to learn. And I manage to get it right. ^^ Now I can wrap up presents nicely for my friends for their birthdays. ^^v Well the problem is, I'm not the sort who likes to do stuff like handicrafts and gift wrapping should come under that category. I just don't have the talent for it too, though I know how to do it. And come to think of it, I'll be working every single afternoon, even on Sundays and Saturdays. Which means I don't have time to hang out with friends and stuff. There are tonnes of holiday assignments at home and tests for me to study for once school reopens. =/ I'll only get my pay at the end of the month, unlike being a banquet waitress (yes I'm working as one too), where you get your pay on the very day you work. And it gets transferred into my bank account. Kind of takes away the excitment of actually holding the days earnings. Anyway, I haven't actually started work so I'll try to be optimistic about it. I could enjoy it. Work starts on Friday. Will keep you updated on how it went. =P Ying.||22:23 |
